New archaeological studies begin in Tiro Janer to analyze remains of a necropolis

The Department of Culture of the Board has already given authorization to carry out these works

A previous report has already been made regarding the BIC of the Doctrinal Battery, included in the monument category

The Cádiz Free Trade Zone is advancing the necessary work on the Tiro Janer plot in San Fernando for its development as a business park. Thus, this Tuesday morning new archaeological studies have begun that expand and complement the one previously carried out in the Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) of the Doctrinal Battery, which dates back to the beginning of the 19th century, and which is included in the catalog of protected elements of the PGOU of San Fernando.
This new phase of archaeological analysis, which has already obtained the approval of the Ministry of Culture of the Junta de Andalucía, will study the evidence collected in the archaeological map of San Fernando on the possible existence in that area of a necropolis from the II Iron Age to the Roman Age on which independent action must be carried out.
The study carried out in the first phase determined the partial conservation of the building declared BIC and the need to carry out work for its conservation within the scope of the new urbanization. These works will be defined based on the resolution issued by the Ministry of Culture in view of the report drawn up after the conclusion of the first archaeological studies.
Technicians from the specialized company hired by Zona Franca for this new archaeological study have begun to work on the ground in order to demonstrate the remains and extent of the site, as well as carry out a diagnosis of its chrono-cultural affiliation and its heritage interest. In this way, the report will be prepared and will also be presented to the Ministry of Culture for final approval.
The Tiro Janer Business-Industrial Park will have an area of 65,000 square meters, with an occupancy of 50%. More than 7,000 m of this surface will be reserved² for green areas, about 3,000 for basic infrastructure and a total of 15,000 square meters are contemplated for commercial use and another 3,000 for industrial use, as well as a hotel zone and business center.
Since Zona Franca purchased the old Janer Shooting Range from the Ministry of Defense in March last year, it has worked intensely to expedite the procedures and proceed with the demolition, which will be a fundamental step to materialize the future Park, a very necessary project for the promotion and development of the economic activity of the city of San Fernando and the province of Cádiz.
