Zona Franca purchases the ECAVA warehouse in the context of the reorganization of the Exterior Precinct

The Executive Committee, held on July 30, gave the green light to this purchase, which adds 450 m2 to the more than 41,000 m2 that the Consortium already owns in the outer industrial estate.

The Consortium carries out a land acquisition policy, in order to lead the development of the different phases of transformation of the foreign free zone

Zona Franca, together with the Cádiz City Council, carries out the work of regeneration of the Exterior Precinct through OPEX

THE Cádiz Free Trade Zone Consortium has acquired the ECAVA Inversiones property, located on Algeciras Street n.º 18, with an area of 450 square meters. This purchase has been carried out in the context of the reorganization of the external free zone that the Consortium, together with the city council, promotes through the Office for the Attraction of Investments of the External Industrial Estate of the Free Zone, OPEX.
Specifically, this acquisition, authorized by the Executive Committee of the Consortium on July 30, for an amount of 300,000 euros, is part of one of the fundamental areas of action for the beginning of the regeneration works of the Outdoor Campus: Ibérica AGA-Algeciras Street. In addition to this, other priority areas for the beginning of the development of the foreign free zone are the Navalips area and the shopping center at the entrance to Cádiz, where Supersol is currently located.
This operation joins those carried out by the Consortium in recent months –former Super Cádiz, former Talleres Faro, Ibérica AGA or former Mazda dealership - all actions aimed at taking positions for the future in the execution units that will initially be carried out.
With the purchase of this plot, which has an area of 450 square meters, the Consortium exceeds 41,000 square meters of property in the Outer Precinct, which will allow it to take the initiative in its development. It is worth remembering that barely a year ago, Zona Franca owned 21,692 m2 of land, a figure that has almost doubled with the acquisitions mentioned in recent months. Thus, in this last year they have been able to successfully complete the purchase of different warehouses, in addition to making satisfactory progress in negotiations with many others, all the result of meticulous planning work.
It should be noted that, within the context of undertaking a project as ambitious as the reorganization of the outer polygon, which is going to change the physiognomy of the city, turning it into an emblem of modernity, the work of urban transformation that has been entrusted to OPEX is proving extremely complex, since it is working from a pre-existing reality that must be adapted to new times. For this reason, since 2011 a thorough diagnostic work has been carried out, through which the 515,000 m2 of the industrial estate have been distributed into 15 execution units, which in turn will be framed in different phases.
Likewise, and in the context of facilitating the relocation of companies that need to relocate their activity once the development of the execution units begins, the Consortium has built the Europa building in the Interior Campus, an office building that also has 17 industrial warehouses designed to relocate the different activities that request it.

Actions by phases

Within the framework of the three fundamental areas on which OPEX is going to focus the development of the outdoor polygon –the already mentioned Ibérica AGA - Algeciras, Navalips and Supersol streets (Cádiz entrance) - a schedule will be established in which work will be carried out in different phases, in which action will be taken in parallel in several execution units.
Thus, the actions on the Ibérica AGA-Algeciras Street area will result in the setback of the margins of Algeciras Street, the opening of a street that would link it with Gibraltar Street and the development of new green spaces and roads, in addition to consolidating various buildings to house industry and offices.
Likewise, with the creation of the Metropolitan Entertainment Center, in the Navalips area, and the commercial, hotel and office space at the entrance to the city, the image of Cádiz will be revalued as a model of urban regeneration, creating in the external free zone one of the main focuses of economic activity and employment in the city.
