Zona Franca has begun today the demolition of the facilities that will last four months and is carried out by the company Construcciones y Excavaciones Erri Berri SL
These works make it possible to connect the Pastoriza plot with that of the old Ibérica Aga –already cleaned up- and thus advance in the development of the Base Zone project that will promote the reorganization of the exterior polygon
The Cádiz Free Trade Zone complies with the announced schedule to advance the works for the development of the execution unit of the former Ibérica Aga in which the Base Zone project will be launched.
This morning the company Construcciones y Excavaciones Erri Berri – winner of the work for an amount of 47,500 euros (VAT not included) – has begun the demolition of the old Pastoriza workshops, which will be completed at the beginning of 2021.
It should be noted that the completion of the demolition of these facilities is one more link in the development of the execution unit of the former Ibérica Aga, since it will allow both plots to be connected and free up the space necessary to develop the technological base project Zona Base Cádiz, a space that will house an innovation center in maritime containers and which, in its first phase, includes the launch of a high-tech incubator based on the blue economy and which is financed by funds granted by the Spanish Pluriregional Operational Program Feder 2014-2020 “A way of making Europe” through the Incyde Foundation of the Chambers of Commerce.
The Free Trade Zone has one of its priority lines of work in the reorganization of the city's outer polygon, despite the fact that it only has 7.6% of its surface. Even so, and given the strategic nature of this important space for the socioeconomic growth of the city, Zona Franca has opted to promote its development hand in hand and with the collaboration of the city council, with which it is in permanent dialogue to advance the urban planning procedures necessary to begin the works of the Zona Base action and its blue economy incubator, a project that was born to attract industry 4.0. and generate a space of opportunity for Cadiz talent in this sector and, in turn, generate new options in the city for the arrival of technological and sustainable companies.
The spirit of the project encompasses a double line. On the one hand, offer a space adapted to their needs to technological entrepreneurs, who require a small number of square meters for their work, but with an environment that enables an entrepreneurial ecosystem that favors synergies. And on the other hand, promote the elimination of the digital divide in Cádiz and achieve new job opportunities.
Likewise, the Consortium intends for this action to encourage and revitalize the recovery of the important outdoor area of the industrial estate. Furthermore, in this case we add the fact that the demolition of Pastoriza affects the image of an access area to the Cadiz capital – the Pastoriza plot is located at the confluence of Algeciras and Alcalde Sánchez Cossío streets – which will be considerably improved.
The demolition, in figures
The construction of the Pastoriza facilities dates back to the early 1970s and is currently inactive and in a state of obvious deterioration.
The total area of the plot is 9,422 m² and it has a constructed area of 9,935 m², although the work in this first phase of the work affects a part of the building, specifically 7,050 m².
It should be noted that the demolition will not affect the existing office building, which includes changing rooms and shops with a total of 972 m2 on the ground floor and which has a transformation center owned by Eléctrica de Cádiz attached to it with access from Sánchez Cossío street.
The Pastoriza ships housed an industry linked to the naval sector, where boilermaking work was carried out for the manufacture of blocks and other metal elements that make up the ships. All types of materials, tools and consumables aimed at the same industrial sector were also sold.
