The Free Trade Zone of Cádiz has registered with the Los Barrios City Council the two detailed studies required to advance in the urban planning process of the new Bahía de Algeciras tax precinct that is going to be developed in Fresno.

This procedure was requested by the Barreño City Council as a prior step to the start of the works necessary for the creation of the fiscal precinct. Finally, it was decided that the Free Trade Zone would break down the reorganization of accesses and plots to adapt them to the conditions and characteristics of the tax area, a space that will increase the competitive capacity of the business fabric of the region.

It should be noted that the technicians from both administrations have been in contact to complete this urban planning procedure necessary to advance a project with the complexity of the new fiscal precinct, which will also represent a milestone in concepts like surveillance and access control. This collaboration has also been maintained at the institutional level, since the State delegate, Fran González, held a round of meetings in the region days after his appointment - in which he met with the mayor, Miguel Alconchel -, with the aim of consolidating the commitment to the Bay of Algeciras Free Trade Zone, a key space for the growth of the province.

Specifically, the detailed studies recorded include the distribution of uses, organization of spaces, enclosure and security measures, among other fundamental elements for the configuration of the new fiscal precinct, which is one of the Consortium's priority projects in the province. Not in vain, the Cádiz Free Trade Zone is the only one of the seven Spanish free zones that will manage two tax precincts in Spain.

In parallel with the progress in the urban planning procedures and adaptation works for the implementation of the fiscal precinct, the Consortium is working on a marketing plan, which is intended to be elaborated attending to real needs of the Campo-Gibraltar business fabric, closely linked to port activity and foreign trade operations due to its proximity to the port of Algeciras.

It is important to note that companies that operate in the Bahía de Algeciras tax area will benefit, depending on the activity they carry out, from the customs and tax advantages of a tax area, which represents cost savings and added competitiveness to their activity.

The Bahía de Algeciras tax precinct is a project that was given a definitive boost by the Government of Spain when it was included as a strategic enclave in the Comprehensive Plan for the Campo-Gibraltar region that in November 2018, in the Ministry of Finance section, mentioned “the creation of a free zone of 130,000 m2 in the neighborhoods”. Less than a year later, on October 1, 2019, the Ministry of Finance authorized the ministerial order for the implementation of the facility, an announcement that was presented by the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, to a broad representation of the socioeconomic fabric of the region.
