The Cadiz Free Trade Zone has awarded the company Stone Maritime Operations, SL, a subsidiary of the Piedra Group, a plot of 1,500 m2 on the land of the future fiscal precinct of EL Fresno, in Los Barrios, through the Public Offer opened by the Consortium for the implementation of industrial projects.
The project of this maritime-port services company in the Bay of Algeciras is the installation and development of a weighing and verification center for maritime containers destined for export in the Port of Algeciras.
Stone Maritime Operations expands its business area on the Free Zone land in Los Barrios due to the imminent entry into force of the new regulations of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) that requires the verification of the gross mass of all containers that must be stowed on board a ship before export. This fact forces cargo shipping companies to weigh their containers individually before boarding.
For this reason, Stone Maritime Operations, SL has decided to implement this activity on land that it considers strategic because it is the prelude to the northern access to the Port and because of its easy access from the Mediterranean highway A-7 and the Jerez-Los Barrios highway A-381.
The project includes the installation of two bridge-type industrial scales with a weighing capacity of 60,000 kg, expandable to five depending on the effective market volume; access ramps; vehicle and container license plate detection viewer; office module; and concreting 20 meters long by 4 meters wide for each scale unit.
Likewise, this initiative of the Piedra Group foresees the creation of jobs, which may be expanded as the workload increases due to the daily containers that need to be weighed.
With this subsidiary of the Piedra Group, there are now seven companies that have submitted offers for installation in this industrial space in the Free Zone that has 140,000 m2 and which is one of the pillars of the project to enlarge and expand the tax facilities of the Consortium to other municipalities in the province.
El Fresno forms a productive space of great importance due to its aforementioned strategic location, which makes it the most important hinterland of the Port of Algeciras.
