The remodeled facilities, located at the Isla Verde Pier, will double their storage capacity and volume of activity.

The Special Delegate of the State in the Cádiz Free Zone, Jorge Ramos; the mayor of Algeciras, José Ignacio Landaluce; and the president of the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras, Manuel Morón, have inaugurated this morning the comprehensive improvement of the facilities of the Algeciras Free Warehouse, located at the Isla Verde Dock. The event was also attended by Bernardino Copano, vice president of DALSE, among other authorities of the Region.
The improvement works, which have involved an investment of one million euros, will allow the facilities to double their storage capacity and, above all, have cold storage, which will also generate double activity and, consequently, the number of jobs will double, currently 25.
After the discovery of the commemorative plaque, Jorge Ramos expressed his gratitude to the attending authorities and highlighted the full collaboration between institutions so that this type of initiatives, which result in economic growth and job creation, see the light.
The Free Trade Zone delegate also pointed out that the improvement of this infrastructure continues the strong commitment of the Institution in recent years to develop infrastructure in favor of the economic activity of the province, highlighting the 70,000 m2 available in what is the largest network of business centers in Andalusia.
Likewise, Ramos highlighted Zona Franca's commitment to the Campo de Gibraltar, where it has made an investment of 68 million in recent years, with important initiatives such as the Nexus Business Center in Algeciras and "the expansion and expansion project of the Zona Franca tax precinct, with which a significant effort is being made to implement a 130,000 m2 tax precinct in Cortijo Real, which will be a fundamental complement to this Port."
For his part, José Ignacio Landaluce thanked Zona Franca for its intense work in recent years in Algeciras for being an instrument to be more competitive, for generating productive spaces that encourage business consolidation and, therefore, the generation of employment, which will also be increased enormously with the installation of a tax facility on the land of Cortijo Real in Algeciras.
Manuel Morón and Bernardino Copano expressed themselves along these lines, extending the gratitude of the entire port community for being able to count on modern and improved infrastructure.
This act has put the finishing touch to works that began at the end of last year by the company Sacyr Construcciones, for an amount of 781,398.63 euros (VAT not included) -co-financed by Funds requested in the FEDER Operational Program of Andalusia 2007-2013-.
Specifically, the work has involved a comprehensive improvement of the facilities with the replacement of hydraulic platforms in the loading docks, placement of automatic doors between the warehouses, repair of decks, signaling and painting work in general and installation of two cold rooms, among others.
It should be noted that the Algeciras Customs and Fiscal Warehouse is made up of facilities that are closed on the perimeter and isolated from the rest of the port environment. It is made up of four warehouses with a covered area of approximately 8,400 m2 and an adjacent plot whose uncovered area is approximately 3,200 m2, equipped with ten docks for loading and unloading vehicles.
These facilities make up an exempt customs area that allows you to have both community and non-community goods, to which neither the tariffs nor the taxation of the community country is applied. This allows goods from third countries to be deposited without applying tariffs or community trade policy and also to incorporate national and community merchandise without the corresponding taxation, assimilating it to an export.
