The collaboration between institutions favors the development of an infrastructure that will have a real and direct impact on the economic and social activity of the municipality, establishing it as a high-performance windsurfing and kite area.
The State delegate in the Free Trade Zone, Jorge Ramos, and the mayor of Tarifa, Juan Andrés Gil, signed an agreement yesterday Wednesday morning at City Hall for the construction and operation, under an administrative concession, of a Wind Sports Technology Center. The event was attended by the provincial representative for Tourism, Inmaculada Olivero, in support of an action that will have a real and direct impact on the economic and social activity of the municipality, a European benchmark in this type of sports practices and one of the tourist emblems of the province.
The signed agreement is part of the collaboration between institutions to make the most of synergies and carry out specific projects aimed at strengthening the business and social fabric, favoring the revitalization and economic and social development of the municipalities, synonymous with economic activity and job creation.
The project is valued at nearly four million euros and represents the “consecration and official recognition of Tarifa as a privileged venue for nautical sports linked to the wind.” With these words, Jorge Ramos presented the project, who also pointed out that this facility pays off a debt owed to Tarifa as a “dynamizing area of the economic activity of the province and capital of tourism linked to the wind.””
Thus, the completion of the initiative will involve the creation of the aforementioned Technology Center on plot 29 of “La Marina I”, specifically on plots A and B, with an area of 6,074.63 m2.
The signing of this agreement of intentions is the first step to carry out the action as soon as possible, which is why both technicians from the Free Trade Zone and the City Council are working to finalize an executive agreement that will give way to the bidding for the works in the coming weeks. Likewise, Ramos highlighted the public nature of the endowment and advocated for the involvement of the three administrations present at the firm in the management of future facilities.
For his part, Juan Andrés Gil highlighted that "Tarifa thus aspires to offer equipment adapted to the demands of the municipality as a training ground, high performance and sports practice for thousands of citizens." The first mayor also stressed that the involvement of the Free Trade Zone and the Provincial Council denote a “decided and high-level provincial commitment to Tarifa and its tourist excellence.”
Finally, Inmaculada Olivero valued a project that will favor the breaking of the seasonality of tourism and the specialization of the offer based on its natural and sporting brand.
This project is part of the work being carried out by Zona Franca aimed at developing and strengthening the business and industrial fabric of the province of Cádiz, promoting economic and social revitalization through different investment actions and, specifically, in the Campo de Gibraltar region, where the Consortium is immersed in an expansion and expansion plan in Algeciras, Los Barrios and La Línea in which it will develop new tax precincts that will attract industrial and logistics; in addition to carrying out other actions such as the recently inaugurated “Edifico Nexus” Business Center” in Algeciras, as well as industrial warehouses-business incubators in Palmones (Los Barrios) –currently in tender–, or the comprehensive improvement of the Palmones industrial estate –which will be awarded in the coming days–.
