The mayor of Jerez and the delegate of the Free Zone of Cádiz visit the rehabilitation works of the Convent of San Agustín

The alcAldesa highlights its commitment to creating jobs in the city, since ten of the subcontracted companies or suppliers are from Jerez

The mayor, María José García-Pelayo, together with the Special State Delegate of the Free Trade Zone Consortium, Jorge Ramos, visited the rehabilitation works of the old convent of San Agustín this morning to report on the progress of the work that has been carried out since last January. These works aim to recover this emblematic building for its conversion into a Business and Business Services Center, a strategic project of great importance for Jerez and the province, which includes an investment of about five million euros.
The first deputy mayor, Antonio Saldaña, the delegate of Urban Planning, Agustín Muñoz, and the delegate of Economic Impulse, Francisco Cáliz, were also present during the visit, as well as technical staff from both the Free Trade Zone and the Urban Planning Delegation of the City Council.

The special delegate of the Free Zone has congratulated the technicians of the Free Zone and the City Council, as well as the three companies that participate in a joint venture in this important work "because their status and progress is very accurate, very correct, and they are going well."

Jorge Ramos has explained that this is a rehabilitation work and that therefore there is continuous protection from the Junta de Andalucía to preserve and enhance those spaces that must be conserved.

According to the Free Trade Zone delegate, the works are currently at a level of execution on the budget - which amounts to about 5 million euros - of the order between 7 and 8 percent, since the rehabilitation work has begun.

Likewise, he highlighted that the companies awarded the works "are meeting the requirements, especially from the City Council, to take into account the presence of subcontracting companies from the city of Jerez, as well as the direct jobs that are generated as a result of the work, also of people linked to Jerez and its municipal area." In addition, he highlighted that at peak times of the works "it is estimated that there may be between 55 and 60 people working."

Regarding the planning of the works, Jorge Ramos has announced that at the beginning of July the urbanization works on Puerto Street will begin, another of the important actions contained in this project, as well as the rehabilitation of the exterior building on Juan Sánchez Street, which has an area of 111.79 square meters. He has also indicated that priority will be given to the rehabilitation work of the building attached to the main core, which will have a constructed area of 962.15 square meters and will have 13 offices.

In relation to these three priority actions, the Consortium estimates that they could be a reality in spring.

Regarding the main core of the work, that is, the main cloister, he pointed out that "it is evident that in this part of the building we will have to go much slower, but in any case, the works are going at the planned pace, which is very satisfactory."

The mayor has thanked Jorge Ramos, and therefore the Zona Franca and the Ministry of Finance, "for having trusted the city of Jerez to make this very important investment, an investment that not only creates employment during the time that the rehabilitation work lasts, but will also make it possible to have a Business Center "so that businessmen and entrepreneurs from Jerez, under the tutelage of the Zona Franca, have ideal spaces to create jobs and create companies."

The mayor has pointed out that ten of the subcontracted companies or suppliers are from Jerez, "which means that the Free Trade Zone has made an important commitment to creating employment in our city."

María José García Pelayo has stated that the City Council, through Urban Planning, is putting all means at the disposal of the Zona Franca “so that there is no type of impediment or slowdown in the execution of the work.

For the mayor, the good development of these works, and being able to have a building for entrepreneurs in the spring, constitutes another good news for the city," she said, recalling yesterday's visit by the General Director of Industry, to announce "a commitment by the central government of 90 million euros for our province, for the Bay of Cádiz and the Bay of Algeciras to create industry and benefit, above all, small and medium-sized companies."
