Seven companies opt for the works of the Bahía de Algeciras Tax Precinct

The Cádiz Free Trade Zone put out to tender the works after the authorization of the Executive Committee on February 2 with a base bidding budget of 2,496,192.36 euros (VAT not included) and an execution period of 8 months

The works include perimeter fencing, the surveillance, security and lighting control system and the remodeling of the access road with the incorporation of two roundabouts.

It must be remembered that the start of the works is conditional on obtaining the building permit, a procedure that can now be carried out after the final approval last Monday of the two detailed studies of the project by the Los Barrios City Council.

A total of seven companies have submitted to the public bidding competition opened by the Cádiz Free Trade Zone for the execution of the conditioning works of the Bahía de Algeciras Tax Precinct, once the Executive Committee authorized the procedure on February 2. The deadline for receiving offers ended on Tuesday, March 9 at 3:00 p.m.

The companies opt for jobs that have a base bidding budget of 2,496,192.36 euros (VAT not included), of which 1,593,714.09 euros are allocated to civil works, while 902,478 euros correspond to installations.

It is expected that the awarding of the works can be carried out at the end of April, once the entire schedule for opening bids, both technical and economic, has been met.

The execution period for the works is eight months from the date of obtaining the construction license and the signing of the layout document. At this point, it must be remembered that the start of the works is conditional on obtaining the municipal license from the Los Barrios City Council, a procedure that is now possible after the final approval last Monday of the two detailed studies that the Free Trade Zone presented last August at the request of the City Council itself.

The adaptation work of the new tax area will fundamentally consist of the replacement and expansion of the current perimeter fence (2,132 linear meters); the creation of a surveillance patrol, of the same length of the fence, which includes the surveillance control system, thermal cameras, lighting and other security measures. It should be noted that these items reflect the complexity of the new facility, which will represent a milestone in concepts like surveillance and access control, in which the Free Trade Zone has worked intensely and in coordination with the Customs demarcation with the aim of integrate las new technologies from communication to customs work.

Along these lines, the works also include the remodeling of the access road with the incorporation of two roundabouts, the execution of the aforementioned access controls and license plate reader systems.

Works in parallel to commercialization

At the same time that the Free Trade Zone of Cádiz is advancing in the works that will make up the tax area and the necessary urban planning and administrative procedures, it is also speeding up the marketing of the spaces for which the Public Offer that is expected to be launched in the coming weeks is being finalized.

With all these steps, the implementation of this important infrastructure for the Bay of Algeciras region and, in general, for the development of the logistics potential of the entire province is getting closer and closer, which is why it is a priority for the Cádiz Consortium, which thus fulfills an action that was already included in the Comprehensive Plan of the Government of Spain for the Campo-Gibraltar region of November 2018.

Since then, the Consortium has been advancing a calendar of milestones and promoting institutional collaboration to speed up the development of this action, which is essential for structuring the logistics capacity of the province, forming a strategic productive space of 130,000 m2, with direct access to the Port of Algeciras as well as the A-7 and A-381 highways.

To achieve this milestone, the order of the Ministry of Finance on October 1, 2019, authorizing the implementation of the tax precinct, was fundamental.

The Bahía de Algeciras Tax Precinct is therefore being created to take advantage of all the logistical and industrial potential of the region and the province, promoting the internationalization of companies. Thus, companies that operate in their facilities will benefit, depending on the activity they carry out, from the customs and tax advantages of this type of facilities, which represents cost savings and provides added value and increased competitiveness to their activity.
