The Ministry of Finance has authorized, with the publication of the corresponding Ministerial Order in the Official State Gazette, the implementation of the “Bahía de Algeciras” tax precinct, a space of 130,000 m2 of useful area and 200,000 m2 of gross area that Zona Franca de Cádiz will manage on the land of El Fresno, in the Campo-Gibraltar municipality of Los Barrios.

The publication of this order culminates an intense and complex processing process, based on the decision of the Free Trade Zone of Cádiz, as an instrument to promote the economic activity of the province, to respond to a historical need highlighted by businessmen and business associations in the region – logistics operators, large industries, small and medium-sized companies – who demanded a logistics space with tax and customs advantages as added value to the operations around the port of Algeciras.

Added to this historical demand is the interest of Zona Franca de Cádiz in contributing to the development of this region, due to its socioeconomic peculiarities and for being a first-rate logistics focus, with an important industrial fabric that makes it the first industrial hub in Andalusia.

The support of the Government of Spain in this project materialized last November when the fiscal site was included in the Spanish Government's comprehensive plan for the Campo de Gibraltar as one of the concrete measures to boost the economy of the region.

Once the ministerial order is obtained, Zona Franca de Cádiz will contribute its experience of 90 years of work in the management of the “Bahía de Algeciras” tax area, an important experience in internationalization and foreign trade, turning that entire area of El Fresno into an important enclave for attracting investments, increasing the competitiveness and profitability of the companies that operate there.

A phase of adaptation of the land to the characteristics of the tax area now begins, with the installation of the corresponding enclosure and other details to begin operating with all the features of the Free Trade Zone, access control, special 24-hour security conditions, etc. At the same time, procedures will be launched to develop the public offer so that interested companies can access these spaces.

The Free Trade Zone of Cádiz consolidates with the “Bahía de Algeciras” facility its commitment to the Campo de Gibraltar and strengthens the province's logistics corridor within the strategic planning of the territory, hand in hand with the Government of Spain and the Ministry of Finance, which has given priority to the successful completion of this project.
