The technical services of Zona Franca have supervised and approved days ago the “Project to correct technical deficiencies and improvements in the Palmones Industrial Estate in Los Barrios”, which will have a budget of 4,048,425 euros, financed 70% by Zona Franca and 30% by the Los Barrios City Council.
The approval of the project, once its drafting was commissioned in February 2014, is a consequence of the agreement that both institutions signed in April 2013 and that was ratified by the Executive Committee of the Free Zone and authorized in a meeting held on November 21, 2013.
The improvement of the Palmones Industrial Estate is part of the Free Trade Zone's line of work to reinforce its presence in the province and, in particular, in Campo de Gibraltar in order to create infrastructure that promotes economic activity and helps create jobs.
This was stated by Jorge Ramos during the signing ceremony of the agreement, where he explained that this Free Zone investment "will reactivate the economy in the business park and will highlight the interest in improving its facilities, with the aim of contributing to the socioeconomic development of Los Barrios and Campo de Gibraltar. This type of investment lays the foundations for economic activity to be generated, new companies to be created and these to generate employment, something so necessary in these times.”
The different actions that are going to be carried out, whose investment amounts to 3.7 million euros, are financed by a subsidy from the FEDER Funds within the Operational Program “Andalusia 2007-2013”.
The agreement contemplates 38 actions, which can be classified into three groups: strengthening the urban structure; the improvement of service infrastructures and the enhancement of the global image, actions that will redesign, improve and, in some cases, create new spaces, in order to correct obsolete infrastructure over the years and will modernize and energize some industrial estates that attract population from the entire Campo de Gibraltar region.
