Zona Franca awards Puyol and Cruz Arquitectos the execution project to rehabilitate the Convent of San Agustín de Jerez

The rehabilitation of the convent of San Agustín de Jerez as a Business Center promoted by the Free Trade Zone of Cádiz is closer to being a reality. On Friday, May 10, the Cádiz institution formalized the award of the contract for drafting the execution project to Puyol y Cruz Arquitectos S.L.P. for an amount of 80,000 euros (VAT not included) and a delivery period of 30 days. This contract is financed by European Funds, within the framework of the FEDER Operational Program of Andalusia 2007-2013.
It should be remembered that the Consortium put out to tender the execution project on February 16, with a total of 9 offers presented.
Likewise, and with the aim of speeding up the deadlines, the Consortium, once the technical report had been drafted, presented in April to the Culture Delegation of the Government of Andalusia the project to begin the necessary archaeological work prior to the start of the action, as well as such as authorization for the deposit of materials.
The fact that the deadline for the presentation of the project by the successful bidder is a maximum of 30 days will perfectly allow the WORKS to be put out to tender in the middle of summer, as long as this calendar is not altered due to a delay in the archaeological works, pending approval by the Junta de Andalucía. The works, whose budget will be around seven million euros, will have a completion period of 14 months.
This project symbolizes the commitment of the Free Zone with the city of Jerez and is the result of collaboration between institutions. In fact, the starting signal for its implementation was the signing of a collaboration agreement signed at the end of September of last year by the Undersecretary of the Treasury, Pilar Platero; the mayor of the city, María José García Pelayo; and the Special delegate of the State in the Cádiz Free Zone Consortium, Jorge Ramos Aznar.
In addition to this important initiative in the heart of the city, last Wednesday María José García-Pelayo and Jorge Ramos signed a collaboration protocol at City Hall to proceed with the comprehensive rehabilitation of the El Portal industrial estate, with a project that has a budget close to 4 million euros and which will serve to comprehensively improve this industrial area, with the aim of consolidating existing companies there and attracting new investments.

Design of the new Business Center
The rehabilitation project of the convent includes the recovery of the main cloister of the property and the annex building to put it at the service of the city, creating a Business Center available to entrepreneurs and small self-employed people, who will have their own space to generate employment and wealth. in Jerez.
The new Business Center will be a state-of-the-art, modern and functional building, with an area of 4,500 square meters, distributed over three floors high that will have 49 offices with surfaces between 15 and 60 square meters. The property will also have multiple-use and shared meeting rooms with spaces intended to support entrepreneurs and companies that set up shop. The rehabilitation of the old convent, currently in disuse, will symbolize the union between historical Jerez and the Jerez of the future through two elements, stone and glass.
The action that Zona Franca will carry out also includes the redevelopment of Puerto Street, adjacent to the future business center, within the framework of the exterior development of the building.
