Free Trade Zone of Cádiz and Los Barrios City Council sign the protocol for the improvement of the Palmones industrial estates

The actions, aimed at strengthening its urban structure, improving service infrastructure and enhancing its global image, are co-financed by European Regional Development Funds.

The State delegate in the Cádiz Free Trade Zone Consortium, Jorge Ramos, and the mayor of Los Barrios, Jorge Romero, signed today, Thursday, a protocol of intentions between both institutions that will allow the comprehensive improvement of the Economic Activities Center of the Bay of Algeciras, which includes the Palmones Business Park. Both the Executive Committee of the Free Zone and the Governing Board of the Barrio Consistory approved the aforementioned protocol in recent days, which responds to the interest of both institutions in regenerating the industrial infrastructures of the Palmones industrial estates, which have become a large reference space for the implementation of economic activities in the Region.
The different actions that are going to be carried out, whose investment amounts to 3.7 million euros, are financed by a subsidy from the FEDER Funds within the Operational Program “Andalusia 2007-2013”.
The protocol breaks down the 38 proposed actions, which can be classified into three groups: strengthening the urban structure; the improvement of service infrastructures and the enhancement of the global image, actions that will redesign, improve and, in some cases, create new spaces, in order to correct obsolete infrastructure over the years and will modernize and energize some industrial estates that attract population from the entire Campo de Gibraltar region.
It should be noted that the works would also result in a comprehensive improvement of the environment of the Marismas de Palmones Business and Technology Park, owned by a company owned by the Cádiz Free Zone, a park through which the Consortium has been established in the municipality since 2003 and which sits on an area of 312,000 square meters. In this business park, the Consortium has warehouses of different sizes and plots in a strategic space that has the emblematic Towers of Hercules and the Azabache Building.
The signing of this protocol is part of a series of actions that Zona Franca is promoting together with the Los Barrios City Council to promote the development of the municipality's economy. Thus, last January the heads of both institutions signed an agreement to promote business projects, focused on creating infrastructure and services that entrepreneurs need to launch their activities.
