The mayor, María José García Pelayo, accompanied by the first deputy mayor and delegate of Urban Planning, Antonio Saldaña, will sign, this Thursday the 20th, the collaboration agreement with the undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Finance and Public Administrations, Pilar Platero Sanz, and the Special Delegate of the Cádiz Free Trade Zone, Jorge Ramos, for the rehabilitation of the old convent of San Agustín and its conversion into a Business and Business Services Center. This project, aimed at revitalizing the city center and boosting the local economy, will have an investment of close to seven million euros from the European Feder funds and the Consortium itself.
The signing ceremony will be held in San Agustín, at 8 p.m., and will also be attended by the president of the Provincial Council of Cádiz, José Loaiza, the subdelegate of the Government in the province of Cádiz, Javier de la Torre, the municipal government team, members of the Municipal Corporation, City Council technicians as well as representatives of the economic and social sectors of the city.
The agreement between the City Council, the Free Zone Consortium and the Ministry of Finance will enable the comprehensive rehabilitation of the old convent, a 16th century building that was disused and of which only a part had been recovered, intended for offices of the Urban Planning Delegation. . The collaboration agreement with Zona Franca also provides for the urban reorganization of Plaza Esteve, an action that aims to recover economic activity in the city center, giving life to its commerce and the food market. Both the rehabilitation of San Agustín and the reorganization of Esteve will represent an important economic boost for Jerez and will contribute decisively to the generation of wealth and employment.
The Business Center will generate activity related to I D i, promoting reactivation and greater business dynamism in Jerez. The project will make adequate infrastructure available to entrepreneurs for the creation of economic activity and employment; With an area of 4,500 square meters, it will make it possible for SMEs to concentrate that do not have sufficient resources or logistical capacity to create their own companies.
The project also includes the redevelopment of Puerto Street to adapt it to the new uses of the old convent with the creation of a roundabout, a median, an urban bus and tourist bus stop and the exterior development of the building.
