The representative of the State in the Free Trade Zone of Cádiz, Jorge Ramos, has visited the new planta industrial of Procosur in the Cádiz Tax Precinct, a project that began operating at the end of last year and that has positioned the frozen food company as one of the most modern frozen foods factories in Europe.
The delegate welcomed the fact that private initiative and public institutions have worked together to launch a pioneer factory in Europe, which must be the model to follow so that the Cádiz business community and by extension the Andalusian business community invest in I D i to gain competitiveness and place our products within an increasingly global but increasingly demanding market. Ramos wanted to highlight the importance of the agri-food sector as an engine of economic growth in Andalusia, a agri-food sector which must be supported by Research to become increasingly competitive, combining tradition with the latest technology in each field.
The visit was guided by José María Bautista and Tomás Nieto, founding partners of the company, who showed the journey - treatment, conservation and packaging for marketing - of the different seafood products. The plant, measuring 12,000 m2 at different heights, allows the entire work chain to be brought together in the same building, with the consequent energy savings, and brings together a refrigerated warehouse, a processing room with cutting-edge technology and a large freezing tunnel, in addition to the different administrative departments.
The total investment has been about 21 million euros, of which Zona Franca has financed almost 10 through the construction of the civil works, carried out by Isolux-Corsán. However, the project has also had the support of the Ministry of Industry, which has contributed 4 million through the Reindustrialization plan for the Bay of Cádiz; and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, which has participated, through community aid from the European Fisheries Fund (FEP) with 5 million euros.
PROCOSUR, with a business volume of 40 million in annual turnover, currently has a total of 170 employees who work producing mostly cephalopods – including octopuses and cuttlefish – which are subsequently distributed to seven European countries and more than 30 stores. retail distributed throughout the province of Cádiz. The fact that the current plant doubles the size of the old factory and allows production capacity to be tripled has allowed PROCOSUR to expand its marketing lines to central Europe - to places like France, Germany, Belgium or Switzerland - to continue growing.
