The delegate of the Free Trade Zone, Fran González, welcomed the participants in the debates that were held yesterday and today
Yesterday and today, the recycled maritime container building of the Incubazul Base Zone hosted the IV edition of the Economic Debate Tournament, an initiative aimed at high school students and the second year of the Vocational Training Degree. The delegate of the Free Trade Zone, Fran González, accompanied by the dean and officials of the College of Economists of Cádiz, the organizing entity of the event together with the General Council of Economists of Spain, welcomed the participants in the tournament, which has brought together training centers from all over the province.
The team from the San Felipe Neri School of Cádiz will be the one that will represent the province of Cádiz in the national tournament to be held in Madrid after being designated by the jury of the provincial final as the winner of the debates. Among the criteria evaluated are the strength and variety of arguments, the use of evidence, expository creativity, the ability to adapt to debate and the correct management of turns and times.
At the opening day held yesterday, Fran González highlighted “the importance of this type of initiatives that foster interest in economic activity among students and highlight the young talent of our province.” The person in charge of the Cádiz Consortium encouraged the participants and urged them to have a Free Trade Zone in the future, with its services and facilities when entering the world of work.
For two days, students from eleven educational centers in the province of Cádiz distributed in a total of 12 teams have competed using words with debates around the question "Is the use of digital money more efficient and responsible than cash? Throughout the contest, participants have defended both positions - for and against - with the aim of demonstrating their ability to build solid arguments from different perspectives.
The provincial phase has been developed in two stages. In the first qualifying phase, all teams competed under a league system, guaranteeing that each team participates in at least three debates and defends both positions. Subsequently, the best teams have gone to the semifinals and the final, already under an elimination system.
A specialized jury has evaluated the debates and has scored the teams based on three main blocks: the content of the arguments (up to 5 points), the form of presentation (up to 3 points) and the development of the debate (up to 2 points).
The participating educational centers have been the IES Carlos Cano of Los Barrios, IES Isla Verde of Algeciras, Colegio San Felipe Neri of Cádiz, IES Poeta García Gutiérrez of Chiclana, Colegios Guadalete Y Grazalema of El Puerto de Santa María, Liceo Sagrado Corazón of San Fernando, Colegio Compañía de María of San Fernando, IES Fuerte de Cortadura of Cádiz, the English Center of El Puerto de Santa María, with two participating teams, and the IES José Luis Tejada Peluffo also from El Puerto.

The Cádiz Institution has been actively collaborating for years with the training of Cádiz students, opening its doors to educational centers and offering talks and conferences on the activity of the Free Zone, logistics, the Blue Economy and entrepreneurship.
