Fran González has highlighted the commitment ratified by the project partners for cross-border collaboration between countries of the European Union, in this case Spain and Portugal, and for the promotion of talent in the field of biotechnology
The Iberobio Project held its closing day in the Portuguese city with the presentation of results and developed tools, in which the coordinator of Incubazul participated.
The State delegate in the Cádiz Free Trade Zone signed today in the Portuguese city of Braga the Declaration of Intent for the continuity of the Iberian Biotechnology Pole, a commitment that reinforces cross-border collaboration and lays the foundations for new joint initiatives in the field of biotechnology.
This declaration has been ratified in the Auditorium of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Minho within the framework of the celebration of the closing session of the Iberobio Project, a meeting that has served as the culmination of three years of joint work between Spanish and Portuguese entities committed to promoting the cross-border Iberian biotechnological ecosystem.
The delegate of the Free Trade Zone, Fran González, has highlighted the importance of this signature that "reinforces the commitment to collaboration between countries of the European Union, in this case between Spain and Portugal, and promotes the recruitment of innovative talent in the biotech sector, in our case a fundamental field for work in the innovation, entrepreneurship and Blue Economy ecosystem linked to our Incubazul and Blue Core projects."
During the conference, which brought together the beneficiary entities of the project, the main results and tools developed within the framework of IberoBio were presented, including the Biotechnological Resources Map, the Talent Platform, the Training Campus, the Biotech Challenges Platform, the “Impulso Biotech” Accelerator or the Financing Tool, the latter presented with a speech by Jose Manuel Fedriani, coordinator of the Zone incubator. Franca, Incubazul. All the tools presented represent tangible advances to strengthen cooperation, innovation and competitiveness of the biotechnology sector in the Iberian cross-border space.
The program of the event, which has been organized by the University of Minho with the participation of all the project partners, has also included a conference “Biotechnology and Space”, by Katie King, from BioOrbit, and a round table on the challenges of biotechnology for sustainable development, with the participation of Loli Pereiro, from BIOGA; Simao Soares, from P-BIO; Gerald Striedner, ESBES; and Ana Machado Silva, from SONAE MC.
It must be remembered that the IberoBio Project was born to promote the biotech ecosystem, covering a vast geographical area, from Galicia and the North of Portugal to Andalusia and the Algarve. This project not only sought to promote innovation and internationalization of the sector, but also to offer a range of services to more than 60 biotechnology SMEs, improving their competitiveness and facilitating their access to international markets.
Zona Franca de Cádiz, as a partner of the POCTEP IberoBio project, plays a fundamental role in promoting and supporting the growth of companies and projects in the biotechnology sector linked to the Blue Economy. In fact, several startups in the sector have passed through the acceleration program of the Cádiz Consortium incubator, some of which are experiencing great success and establishing themselves in the business market.
We must mention as Incubazul initiatives linked to the field of biotechnology startups such as Bubbl3s, Orixe Salgada, Pigmenta Algae, Poseidona, Escaramujo Wines, Galilup Food, Esbeltia, SeaBites Pet Care, Abell Pharma, Blue Marine Oil, D&B Tech, Omnivorus; Bombus or Marisma Biomed.
Through this program and its startup incubator Incubazul, access to specialized resources and services has been facilitated, designed to promote the internationalization, innovation and financing of biotechnological initiatives.
