The Consortium delegate and the mayor of Cádiz have visited the facilities and have seen this activity first-hand on a tour guided by the general director of the firm, Marcelo Monge; the deputy director, Ernesto Chalela; and the plant manager, Francisco Bastón, among others.
Fran González and Bruno García have been interested in the investments and new equipment implemented in the Zona Franca warehouse, which are increasing productivity in a continuous and more sustainable way with the aim of implementing the model in the rest of their facilities.
The State delegate in the Free Trade Zone, Fran González, and the mayor of Cádiz, Bruno García, visited today the facilities of the Petaca Chico company in the Cádiz tax precinct, where they were received by the general director of the company, Marcelo Monge, who accompanied them on the tour along with Ernesto Chalela, assistant director; Francisco Bastón, plant manager of the facilities; and Faustino Valdés, financial director.
Fran González and Bruno García have been able to see first-hand the growing activity of the company and details about its daily operation, in which it has been highlighted that the entire production of cooked octopus has recently been transferred from the Conil plant due to the enormous growth that the company has experienced in recent years.
Those responsible for the food firm have explained to Fran González and Bruno García all the details about the company's new equipment in the warehouse, where significant investments are being made in equipment that aims to reduce processes that require manipulations in order to to increase productivity. The objective of all this is to optimize and organize production processes and for this a lean manufacturing system is being implemented with the aim that productivity increases continuously and sustainably by eliminating waste. Once the process is completed at the Zona Franca plant, Petaca Chico plans to expand this procedure to the rest of its facilities.
As part of the commitment to a more sustainable model, it stands out that the plant has 650 kw photovoltaic installations that supply energy for a large part of the daily processes.
It must be remembered that Petaca Chico has a total of 12,000 m2 of equipment in the Free Zone since the first warehouse of 2,000 m2 next to the dock edge was joined at the end of 2022 by warehouse 23 that was visited today, a plant for the transformation of fishing products with which Petaca quadrupled its industrial surface in the facility and which is the one visited today. This warehouse, in which 130 people work, has a -25ºC storage capacity of 2,500 tons and a -60ºC storage capacity of 700 tons.
Petaca Chico is a leading company from Cádiz in continuous growth. It was born in Conil in 1993 by the Muñoz Brenes brothers and from then on it has not stopped its national and international expansion, becoming a true benchmark in wild almadraba bluefin tuna.
Currently, the firm has a distribution network spread throughout the national territory through its own logistics and its own sales network. It sells wild red tuna from almadraba at -60º throughout the year and fresh during the fishing season in the month of May.
Petaca Chico is committed to innovation and diversification and also has different product lines, such as cooked octopus, swordfish, yellowfin tuna or its line of canned and salted products, which highlights sea ham, launched on the market ago. several years with the chef Ángel León.
