The State delegate in the Free Zone of Cádiz, Fran González, accompanied by the director of Business Promotion and Foreign Trade of the Consortium, Marta Domínguez, has traveled for two days to the Moroccan city of Tangier as part of the mission of the port community from the Bay of Algeciras to the port of Tangier Med and other logistics and industrial facilities in the neighboring country.
Fran González has taken advantage of the visit to strengthen various commercial contacts with logistics and port operators already initiated in other recent visits to Morocco, in which those responsible for the Cádiz Consortium presented and offered extensive information about the two tax precincts that the Free Zone has in the province – in the capital of Cádiz and in the Bay of Algeciras – to different firms linked to foreign trade, which were very interested in the facilities and strategic location of the Cádiz venues.
The Spanish representation visited the port facilities of Tangier Med, a port that has not stopped growing in recent years and has recently entered the Top 20 container ports in the world, with an extraordinary location that places it at the crossroads of the commercial maritime routes of Europe, Africa and America, which has allowed it to be placed among the most prominent and efficient ports in the world. The trip also included a visit to Tangier Automotive City and the Renault factory in the city.
The port of Tangier Med has boosted the economy of the northern region of Morocco and, by extension, the entire country. Part of its success is due to the model of surrounding the port with surrounding facilities intended for the establishment of industries that need adequate infrastructure for the export of their products. Thus, with the Free Zone and the Tangier Automotive City, Morocco has managed to attract numerous international companies to Tangier and become a power in sectors such as the automobile.
The Tanger Med Free Zone is a fundamental element for the Cádiz Free Zone. Very close to each other, the exchange of synergies between the two is of great value, becoming a potential ally with which to explore ways of working together. The Tangier Med Free Zone was inaugurated in 1999 and has an area of 400 hectares.
The State delegate has highlighted “the importance of participating in trips like this, which offer us the possibility of learning about work models and analyzing possible lines of collaboration with neighboring campuses, with an unbeatable location. We from Cádiz can also contribute our experience of almost a century trading with the world. “It has been enriching to know the way of working of the colleagues at Tánger Med.”
“Very grateful to the Campo de Gibraltar Chamber of Commerce, the port community of Algeciras and the Provincial Council of Cádiz for inviting us to participate in this mission,” said Fran González.
The trip to Tangier has been very fruitful, with numerous contacts and where the representation of the Cádiz Institution has been able to learn first-hand about the way large operators work, while exposing the advantages and location of the two tax centers, ideal for activities linked to foreign trade, and the new industry 4.0 model that the Cádiz Free Trade Zone is developing.
