Zona Franca reveals curiosities from its 95 years of history in an exhibition in the Plaza de San Juan de Dios

This morning the Consortium inaugurated the exhibition '1929, Finally a Free Trade Zone!', which can be visited until July 21, and which takes a tour of the most relevant events in its history in 20 panels and two maritime containers recycled

The Exhibition narrates the events chronologically and in a didactic and attractive way, with the plot thread of the news published in Diario de Cádiz for more than nine decades, in addition to having other audiovisual supports and impressive images from the documentary collection of the Cádiz Port Authority

The delegate, Fran González, highlighted that “this initiative is part of the agenda of events and actions that the Consortium is promoting during 2024 to commemorate his name day, among which a commemorative concert, a podcast and a planned central institutional event also stand out. for the end of September, among others”

The Free Trade Zone of Cádiz continues with its calendar of events and actions to commemorate the 95th anniversary of its creation. This morning, the State delegate in the Consortium, Fran González, inaugurated the exhibition '1929, Finally a Free Zone!', located in the Plaza de San Juan de Dios in Cádiz and which will be open to the public from today, Friday until next Sunday, July 21.

The event was attended by the mayor of the city, Bruno García; the subdelegate of the Government, Blanca Flores.; the general director of the Joly Group, Tomás Valiente; and the director of Diario de Cádiz, Jose Antonio Hidalgo, among other authorities.

The exhibition, which has the collaboration of Diario de Cádiz and the City Council, takes a chronological tour through the history of the Fiscal Institution, with curiosities and anecdotes that run with the common thread of how they were told in the pages of Diario of Cádiz the most relevant moments during these 95 years.

Thus, the Free Trade Zone has wanted to promote a more informative aspect of its history and proposes an exhibition with a language and design that is more attractive to citizens, with audiovisual and sound material, newspaper archive and striking images, some recovered from the Authority's documentary collection. Port of the Bay of Cádiz, thanks to a collaboration agreement.

The content is collected in 20 panels located next to two recycled maritime containers that focus the attention of the exhibition, projecting the Consortium's commitment to the Blue Economy, within the framework of the consolidation of a more sustainable industrial model committed to the environment. .

Among the events collected are from the origins and the first decades, with the creation by Royal Decree of King Alfonso XIII, on June 11, 1929; the complicated beginnings; the dredging and filling works to reclaim the land from the sea and the arrival of the first companies and ships; to the most recent milestones, such as the modernization undertaken in the 80s and 90s; the expansion to the province, with a presence in more than two million m2; the creation of business facilities and buildings in 13 municipalities and the commitment to the Blue Economy, decarbonization or an ambitious modernization and investment plan throughout the province.

During the opening ceremony of the Exhibition, the State delegate in the Free Trade Zone, Fran González, encouraged the people of Cadiz to visit it “because they will be able to delve into the history of the Consortium from a more entertaining and informative perspective, making "I emphasize the importance of looking back to look at the present and the future with optimism, with the background of 95 years and the conviction that the Institution is one of the engines of growth of Cádiz and the province."

“We are working to bring the Institution closer to the city, to open new channels of communication with citizens so that they really know how important this Institution is and has been for the socioeconomic development of the area,” González highlighted.

The delegate recalled that “this initiative adds to the set of actions and events that we are developing from the Free Zone to commemorate an anniversary as important as turning 95 years old. We have already had a day of coexistence with the entire staff, we have launched a podcast made by Radio Cádiz that is being very well received, we also tell our story in Diario de Cádiz publications every Sunday and we anticipate a large central institutional event at the end of September and a concert, among other actions.”
