The State delegate in the Free Zone of Cádiz, Fran González, has signed today in Barcelona the accession of the Free Zone of Cádiz to the Association of Free Zones of the Americas (AZFA), in an act held within the framework of the XXVI Free Zones Conference of the Americas that in this edition is being held in Barcelona from today until Friday.

With the act of incorporation to this entity, which brings together the Latin American free zones, the Cadiz consortium reinforces and consolidates its traditional role of the protagonist in the link with Latin America, looking for roads of collaboration with free zones on the other side of the Atlantic as the best way to promote investments and exchanges between Europe and America.

The link with these countries has also been recently reinforced with the signing of the collaboration protocol with the Santa Fe free zone in Argentina, which has led to a recent visit to Cádiz of Latin American logistics operators and responsible for Argentine free zones.

The Association of Free Zones of the Americas was born in 1997 under the name of Committee of Free Zones of the Americas and currently has the main free zones, companies and consultants from 25 countries, brings together more than 700 free zones and 10,700 companies, with more than 1,180,000 direct jobs. This international body seeks to promote the economic and cultural trade relations of its associates.

Paper on the Free Zone of Cádiz

In addition to joining as a new member of the AZFA, the Free Zone of Cádiz has taken an active part in the match. Fran González has participated in one of this morning's panels, entitled "Free zones as axes of change", sharing a panel with Andrea Serrano, general manager of the Santander Free Zone (Colombia); Fernando Carazo, general manager of the La Lima Free Zone (Costa Rica); and Juan Carlos Botero, general manager of the Free Zone of the Pacific (Colombia).

During his speech, the head of the Gaditano enclosure has exhibited the work strategy carried out by the Free Zone of Cádiz, with the implementation of his new most sustainable and committed industrial model and with the blue economy as a central axis.

Fran González explained the high -tech incubator project that Cádiz is developing and the 71 startups that are housed in it, growing and consolidating themselves as companies, with 34.8% of them that already invoice.

The delegate of the Free Zone has shown in this important international forum that Cádiz is already as a reference for the blue economy and walks with firm steps towards consolidation as a recognizable and recognized pole in blue economy, with assets such as the ports of Cádiz and Algeciras, marine resources such as salt and aquaculture, naval industry/offshore, with navantia, referent of sustainable coastal tourism in the commitment to marine renewable energies.

Fran González has been satisfied for being part of the Association of Free Zones of the Americas, “something that gives us greater visibility with Latin American companies and operators and gives us the opportunity to sell the Cádiz brand in the most important event for the sector, as it brings together operators, users, government entities, investors, etc”.

Cádiz, cradle of trade, has always maintained strong ties with Latin American countries and has extensive experience in events related to those free zones. We must not forget that the Cadiz capital was where the VI Latin American Conference of Free Zones, which brought together more than 300 representatives of companies and entities, was held in October 2002, being the first and until now the only time that this annual meeting took place outside the American continent.
