Free Trade Zone entrusts the Civil Guard with security in the Bahía de Algeciras Tax Precinct

The Civil Guard is now entrusted with the surveillance of the Bahía de Algeciras Tax Precinct after the State delegate in the Free Zone, Fran González, and the general director of the Civil Guard, María Gámez, have signed the document by which this Corps The Security Department is now in charge of the control and surveillance of this second fiscal space of the Consortium.

The Bahía de Algeciras Fiscal Area is a fiscal space, the second managed by the Cádiz Free Zone, conducive to activity linked to foreign trade, both for its customs and fiscal advantages typical of a free zone and for its location close to the port of Algeciras and natural gateway to other continents.

This space also has cutting-edge security measures and highly innovative controls. In fact, it was necessary to carry out work to adapt the space to convert it into a tax area, enclosing the perimeter, installing sentry boxes and a control building, as well as a complete security system. Ç

The Civil Guard, in its Algeciras Command, is currently proceeding with the call for available positions, after which they will carry out the selection to have a staff of agents that responds to the needs of the Fiscal Precinct. The forecast is that surveillance work can begin once the entire procedure is finished, in the first quarter of the year.

Management entrustment to the Civil Guard

The significant number of people and vehicles that will access the premises daily and the value of the merchandise and goods that will be deposited in the different warehouses and offices, as well as the customs regime applied to the fiscal premises, make it necessary to provide a surveillance service. qualified as is the Civil Guard, which will have adequate facilities on the premises to carry out its work, as well as a space provided by the Cádiz Free Zone for use as parking for official vehicles.

After the work carried out and recently completed, which has involved an investment of 2.5 million euros, the Bahía de Algeciras Tax Precinct has a network of cameras that act in a complementary manner as an electronic fortification; on the one hand, thermal cameras and radars for detecting people and, on the other, dome cameras and a complex lighting system in such a way that when the thermal control cameras or radars detect movement, the lighting and dome cameras are activated to control the possible incidence.

Along with this, for the access control of vehicles, trucks and people, a modern system has been designed that allows online processing with Customs of permits and access and facilitates the work of operators and the access and exit of goods. To this end, there are three gantries to control vehicles that have multiple cameras: front and rear license plates, side containers, rear containers; so that if the authorizations and customs procedures are correct, the system will allow entry or exit without the need for paperwork. In the case of people, turnstiles with facial recognition will be installed.

The delegate of the Free Trade Zone, Fran González, has expressed “the need to have a Security Corps like the Civil Guard, with great training, experience and vocation for public service that guarantees the impeccable surveillance of an important tax area such as the Bahía de Algeciras, where the work of the Benemérita will complement the excellent security features.”

The close relationship between the Free Trade Zone of Cádiz and the Benemérita goes back a long way and for years it has carried out the work of control and security of the traditional tax area in the Cadiz capital, guarding the two entrances and also has a facility on the main street of the area. Furthermore, recently the Civil Guard has occupied an administrative building of more than 2,500 m2 in the fiscal precinct of Cádiz, which houses the Maritime Group of the Strait and the Maritime Service Improvement Center of the Civil Guard.
