The history of the Free Trade Zone of Cádiz has always been closely linked to the history of the city. And the Cádiz Consortium has organized the photographic exhibition “Free Trade Zone, when Cádiz grew by the sea” in the Cathedral Square to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the concession by the Ministry of Works of the time of public domain lands for the establishment of the Free Trade Zone of Cádiz.
In the context of this anniversary, the exhibition collects in 21 panels the most relevant episodes in the history of the Institution, closely interrelated with the future of the city since Cádiz was able to grow and expand thanks to the filling operation of the land reclaimed from the sea that made the current Fiscal Precinct possible.
The exhibition will be open to the public from today until July 31, with the aim of opening the Institution to the city and expanding the knowledge that both the people of Cadiz and the visitors who are in our town have of it, bringing them closer in images to the most significant moments during its 93 years of existence.
Thus, the exhibition includes plans, more than 55 photographs – old and more current, from the archive of the Free Zone, the Port Authority of Cádiz and Diario de Cádiz –, curious drawings and press clippings that take a temporal tour of the history of the Consortium: from the creation of the Free Zone; at the beginning of the filling works on the land reclaimed from the sea; reaching the growth of the facilities with the first garages and workshops where the first operators began to work; and to take off with the arrival of the first powerful companies and the opening of the thermal power plant. The exhibition ends with the opening of the Free Trade Zone to the city and the entire province and the commitment to a new, more sustainable industrial model in recent years.
The exhibition was inaugurated this afternoon by the Special Delegate of the State, Fran González, accompanied by the Subdelegate of the Government, Jose Pacheco; by Lola Cazalilla, Councilor for Culture and Festivals of the Cádiz City Council: by Tomás Valiente, general director of the Joly Group; and Jose Antonio Hidalgo, director of Diario de Cádiz, both collaborating entities in the exhibition.
