Ubago acquires six Free Zone plots in the El Olivar Industrial Estate in Barbate to expand its facilities

The company, which will make a total investment of 3.5 million euros, will add 2,394 m2 to its facilities and will reinforce its activity in the province from this municipality on the Janda coast.

The delegate of the Free Trade Zone, Fran González, signed the purchase and sale contract yesterday with the CEO of the canning firm and visited the equipment they currently have in Barbate.

The Ubago company will centralize its activity in the province in the facilities that the Cádiz Free Trade Zone has in the El Olivar Industrial Estate in Barbate, after the signing of the purchase and sale contract for six plots ratified yesterday morning by the State delegate, Fran González, and the CEO of the canning firm, Andrés Espinosa.

In this way, the Ubago Group will add 2,394 m2 to its current equipment and will reinforce its productive activity in the province from the Barbate facilities, establishing a food products processing industry there to provide coverage for the cod and salted fish divisions.

The Polígono El Olivar plant will house part of the industrial module of the manufacturing facilities, a storage room for manufactured products and an expedition center with docks for picking, with the aim of serving all of the group's clients, both national and international.

After the signing, the head of the Cádiz Consortium, accompanied by part of his management team and company officials, visited the facilities that the Group currently has in Barbate and which will undergo a significant expansion and remodeling after the acquisition.

The Ubago Group, which plans to begin activity within a period of 12 to 18 months and the creation of 100 to 120 direct jobs, will make a total investment in Barbate of 3.5 million euros, with an imminent first phase for an amount of 1 .5 million euros.

The company will carry out adaptation work on the six plots acquired from the Free Trade Zone, providing them with cold rooms for the reception of fish and everything necessary for the industrial processes of transformation of that raw material and for the shipment center for storage of the processed product. , order preparation and sales logistics.

The Ubago Group has more than 3,800 employees and is a prestigious company based in Malaga, whose origins date back to 1929. It carries out its activity in the food sector with a wide portfolio of large clients such as Mercadona, Carrefour, Eroski , Auchan or El Corte Inglés. The group's activity focuses on four main divisions: canned fish and seafood, smoked fish, cod and salted fish.

The State delegate in the Free Trade Zone, Fran González, has expressed satisfaction with this new commercial operation, which confirms that the actions to reinforce marketing obtain positive results, not only in Cádiz capital and its tax area but also in the facilities. of the entire province. Fran González pointed out that “the Free Trade Zone of Cádiz is carrying out important work to recover, improve and put its productive spaces on the market, in addition to adapting the facilities to the new parameters of quality, sustainability and commitment to the environment that “It implicitly implies the new industrial model in which it is working.”
