Free Trade Zone will house the Strait Maritime Group and the future Civil Guard Maritime Service Improvement Center

These units will be installed in the so-called cross building, one of the administrative facilities of the old Altadis

The planned investment for adaptation works and security measures is around half a million euros

The fiscal premises of the Cádiz Free Trade Zone will house the Strait Maritime Group and the future Center for Improvement of the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard, which will be called Center for Improvement of the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard, units that will be installed in what is known as the cross building of the old Altadis, one of the administrative facilities of the tobacco company. This was ratified today by the State delegate in the Free Trade Zone, Fran González, and the head of the Cádiz Civil Guard Command, Colonel Jesús Núñez after the signing of the lease contract that was carried out at the Consortium's Headquarters.

Representatives of the Civil Guard and the Consortium have maintained fluid contact for months to respond to the needs of the Corps in order to locate these two important units in the Cadiz facility, as well as analyze and define the schedule of the necessary actions to adapt the facilities to the services, both in terms of adaptation works and security.

The total investment in the building adaptation works and the necessary security system both in the building and in the surrounding area is around half a million euros, specifically 434,500.04 euros, and the initial duration of the contract is 10 years.

The building that will house the two aforementioned Civil Guard units has a total constructed area of 2,517 m2, spread over three floors, of which the ground floor has 517 m2, and the first and second, 1,000 each. In addition, the contract includes the lease of an adjacent area with 38 parking spaces.

The building adaptation works will consist of a general overhaul after years of disuse, without modifications to the current distribution, actions such as recovery of waterproofing, improvements in access to the building, replacement of carpentry and blinds, painting, air conditioning, electrical installation and fire protection, among others. In terms of security, among other measures, video surveillance cameras will be installed indoors and outdoors, reinforcement of signage and delimitation of the building's security area.

The new facility allows the future Civil Guard Maritime Service Improvement Center as well as the Strait Maritime Group to be brought together in the same location. In the case of the Maritime Service Improvement Center, it will provide specialized training to members of the Civil Guard. These courses will be attended by foreign students, both from the EU and third countries.

In the case of the Strait Maritime Group, the management of the unit's personnel, the logistical and operational management of the unit's vessels will be carried out, in addition to the technical inspection and maintenance management of the fleet of vessels of the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard from Huelva to Alicante.

The location of this facility, very close to the Ribera dock within the perimeter of the fiscal area, makes it perfectly fit the needs required by the Civil Guard for both organizations, to which is added the fact that the Civil Guard is responsible for the security of the internal area, with different personnel distributed throughout the fiscal space, its own post in one of the central streets and two vehicle entry and exit control points.
