The Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO) in Cádiz will now have facilities in the Free Trade Zone of Cádiz, specifically a 153 m2 module in the Atlas building of the tax precinct, in which the current offices available to the organization will be expanded. , dependent on the Higher Center for Scientific Research (CSIC) in the capital of Cadiz.

The Cádiz Oceanographic Center, founded in 2008, is one of the nine oceanographic centers of the IEO and is located in the fishing port area of ​​Cádiz. It consists of a building dedicated primarily to research into fishing resources and the marine environment.

The Atlas building facilities will host an expansion of the entity's facilities at a time of change in the industrial model of the Cádiz Free Trade Zone, which is turning towards a responsible industry based on sustainability within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals ( ODS), with a boost to the green and blue economies in all its facilities.

In this sense, the scientific excellence and proximity of the Oceanographic Center to Incubazul, the incubator linked to the blue economy developed by Zona Franca de Cádiz and subsidized by Feder Funds, can be an important added value for the incubated projects and for the entire ecosystem. that will be formed around them.

The news of the expansion of IEO facilities in Cádiz has also coincided with the celebration of Science Week and the organization announced in those days the participation of IEO research staff in the conference cycle “IEO: marine science for society ” aimed at students so that they can learn first-hand about the work of the institution in the face of the impact of adverse phenomena, natural or caused by humans, as well as the research work for the responsible use of marine resources.

The Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO, CSIC), is a National Center of the Higher Scientific Research Council (CSIC), dependent on the Ministry of Science and Innovation, dedicated to research in marine sciences, especially in relation to scientific knowledge. of the oceans, the sustainability of fishery resources and the marine environment. The IEO represents Spain in most international scientific and technological forums related to the sea and its resources. It has nine coastal oceanographic centers, five marine culture experimentation plants, 12 tideographic stations, a satellite image receiving station and a fleet made up of four oceanographic vessels, among which the Ramón Margalef and the Ángeles Alvariño stand out.
