The State delegate in the Free Trade Zone of Cádiz, Fran González, has summoned members of the Fund for the Custody and Recovery of the Salt Marshes (Salarte) to analyze their possible collaboration with the Incubazul blue economy incubator that the Free Trade Zone has launched subsidized with Feder Funds and which will be housed in the Base Zone.
Those responsible for both entities agreed that the experience and connection with the Salarte Sea can provide knowledge of interest to the incubator and even pointed out the possibility that this non-profit entity could collaborate in mentoring tasks with the incubated projects.
Salarte, whose headquarters are the El Caño Tidal Mill in the Bahía de Cádiz Natural Park, works on the sustainable management of the marsh, enhances biodiversity and reinforces the citizen bond with the territory, developing projects that have been worthy of awards such as the Andalusian Environment Award 2015, Special Mention of the Andalusian Award for Volunteering 2016, Flag of Andalusia in Cádiz 2017 for its environmental commitment and “Inspiring Experience” award awarded by the Federation of European Natural and National Parks (EUROPARC) in 2020.
The blue economy incubator, which is already operating in the facilities of the Melkart building, will be housed in the Zona Base innovation and technological expansion center, which is being developed on the plot of the former Ibérica Aga and which will configure a unique space with maritime containers, serving as a model and catalyst for the entire industrial zone of Cádiz.
Incubazul has been operating since September and there are already six projects that have requested incubation after Productos La Salá has recently joined the five that were incorporated in the first three months. This project is dedicated to the cultivation and extraction of salicornia, a plant that grows in salt water and has important health benefits, while trying to know where and when the most productive crops can be grown.
The users of the incubator, who will have a support ecosystem in which Salarte could collaborate, will opt for services such as mentoring, exchange programs, advice for public and private financing, events or scientific forums, all for a maximum period of one year for new initiatives that will be installed in coworking, while the most consolidated projects will occupy individual offices for a maximum period of 5 years.
Incubazul has an investment of 3,150,000 euros and is being developed subsidized with funds granted by the Pluriregional Operational Program of Spain Feder 2014-2020 “A way of making Europe” through the Incyde Foundation.
