Warehouse 24 of the tax precinct of the Free Trade Zone, known because it once housed the activity of the company Procosur, will once again have activity related to the sector thanks to the arrival of the company Mare Cádiz, which was awarded the Public Offer prepared about these facilities and that it has signed the contract for their development and exploitation for a period of 30 years.
The winning firm is based in Granada and belongs to the food sector, with special emphasis on fishery products, especially cephalopods. The company's intention is to begin its activity in the coming weeks, for which it will make an investment of more than 20 million euros in the Cádiz plant and will create a workforce made up of local workers that in the next five years will reach 168 jobs.
Mare Cádiz will be dedicated to the production, packaging and distribution of seafood and other food products, mainly from the cephalopod sector. The company has extensive experience in production and marketing, both in the national market and in the international market, with a special vocation for export activity.
In the tax area plant of the Free Trade Zone, Mare Cádiz will carry out food handling, preparation and packaging, focusing mainly on the Cephalopod sector after carrying out thorough and professional market studies in the current environment that presents new needs. for the consumer and therefore new opportunities. Mare Cádiz wants to play a particularly relevant role in the cephalopod market, as well as in the different varieties of fish, under the seafaring tradition of Andalusia and especially that of Cádiz.
Warehouse 24 offers important features that make it attractive for companies dedicated to this type of activity. In fact, the equipment of the tax area, with its corresponding customs and tax advantages for operations linked to foreign trade, has a total constructed area of 12,123 m2 on a plot of 9,004 m2 and houses industrial cold facilities with cold rooms, office facilities and industrial machinery. In fact, in warehouse 24, the refrigerated surface (-20º) reaches an area of 1,681 m2 while that (-0º) has 727 m2. The refrigeration volume (-20 to 48º) is 24,396 m3 and that dedicated to (-0º) is 4,959 m3. This will give Mare Cádiz, with its investment, the opportunity to try to consolidate itself as one of the pioneering companies in the fishing sector.
It is worth remembering that the Free Trade Zone invested around 8 million euros between 2009-2011 in these facilities, undertaking the civil works of the plant, which was intended to increase its competitiveness with a modern infrastructure equipped with the latest technology in facilities. refrigeration plants and production machinery. Finally, the company entered bankruptcy in 2014, and ended up dissolving its activity, until Zona Franca recovered the warehouse in 2016.
