The Southern European Customs and Logistics Warehouse (DALSE) has increased its activity by 2.7% this year despite the pandemic situation. Thus, according to the results that were announced at the end of last week at the Board of Directors, income from own operations has gone from €1,094,222 in the same period of the previous year (January-November) to €1,124,051 , highlighting the growth in income from freight operations, which has increased by 54%, but, above all, the consolidation of warehouse income sustained throughout the year.
DALSE is a company owned 50% by the Free Trade Zone - through its company Desarrollos Empresariales DEZF - and 50% by the company Bernardino Abad, which is located at the Isla Verde Dock, in the Port of Algeciras, and is dedicated to value-added logistics services and the warehouse of goods, managing an exempt area with tax and tariff benefits provided by the different customs authorizations, assimilating it to free zones. It has approximately more than 12,000 meters of warehouse, ten loading docks - three for refrigerated merchandise, a bi-temperature chamber and machinery for bottle sealing.
The report presents a very positive balance and reflects the effort of efficient management of its own operations, aimed at promoting the added value of customs benefits to foreign trade operations. Thus, the management balance from January to November 2020 highlights the strength of the business model since warehouse income, which represents 94.5% of total income, has remained stable compared to 2019, with 80% of regular operations; while income from freight forwarders has grown by 54% although it only represents 5.5% of total income.
So far this year, these figures have generated the best operating result in the history of the Depot since it began its activity on July 1, 2015. In comparison with 2019, the profit is 15.52% higher, supported by the aforementioned increase in income from own operations and, above all, in a more efficient and planned management of resources in warehouse operations, in which the acquisition of palletized operations has been encouraged as far as possible compared to boxed or unpalletized packages.
These figures and those from previous years have been consolidating the business model of DALSE which, with the appropriate structure and means, is managing to provide value-added logistics services that make it the main dry goods logistics operator within the Port of La Bay of Algeciras. In fact, these results acquire even greater relevance in the context of the crisis derived from Covid-19 and confirm the effort made and the commitment of Zona Franca to the logistics sector, which is emerging as one of the pillars of the world economy in this pandemic period.
To do this, it has a stable staff of around twenty people that is expanded in temporary situations in response to the demand of the warehouse itself.
The Board of Directors, which was held at the facilities of the Free Warehouse on the Isla Verde dock in the Port of Algeciras, was attended by the State delegate in the Free Trade Zone of Cádiz, Fran González, accompanied by the president of DALSE. , Felipe Martínez, and part of the Zona Franca management team. Bernardino Copano, CEO of Bernardino Abad, and Javier Copano, general director of Bernardino Abad, also attended.
DALSE, the added value of customs figures to logistics
During the first 11 months of 2020, DALSE has invoiced a hundred different clients, of which 95% were freight forwarders and customs agents, that is: logistics operators that move goods in global trade and who have subcontracted the services of the Deposit for the added value that customs figures provide to your logistics.
For their part, the remaining 5% corresponds to importers, exporters, traders and distributors who own the merchandise they distribute and control their own logistics.
Likewise, DALSE has customs authorizations for different types of deposits with their corresponding tariff and tax benefits. During 2020, it has been active in the four types of authorized warehouses and in all of them it has acted as a regulatory warehouse for goods for distribution in the EU and third countries, managing around 8,000 containers in all warehouses. Among these warehouses are the ADT/TG Temporary Deposit Warehouse, imports for distribution in Europe (textile, wood, construction, food, sugar, household appliances), among others, which have not had payment of tariffs or internal taxes or other security measures. trade policy; the Distinct Customs Warehouse (DDA), which has meant the consolidation of community merchandise for export, without bearing VAT on intermediate sales (food in general, drugstores, cheeses, oils, etc.; and import of raw materials), the Fiscal Warehouse of Alcoholic Beverages and Public Customs Warehouse. For all operations, it also has authorization for health registration from the Junta de Andalucía, which guarantees operations in the food sector.
This diversification in operating models and in the different deposits available to operators guarantees the business model and activity of DALSE.
Committed to promotion and institutional collaboration
Furthermore, the management report also highlights the firm commitment to the external projection of the facilities and services, in the line already initiated by the Cádiz Free Zone of promoting its assets and its logistical potential at a regional, national and international level. The Algeciras Customs Warehouse is carrying out intense commercial promotion based mainly on the presence at congresses and fairs by institutions such as the APBA, Chambers of Commerce, Confederation of Businessmen; the association in COMPORT and the active search for potential clients and monitoring of established clients.
Along these lines, a new website was launched a few weeks ago www.dalse.es in Spanish and English that projects the warehouse's activity and clearly and effectively communicates its services.
The Management Report also includes an upward business forecast in line with the last two years with a very high level of operations and warehouse occupancy, consolidating regular operations in the first half of 2021 and maintaining a promotion commitment of 3,000 m2 of the external area for transfers of goods.
At the end of the Board of Directors, a visit to the facilities began in which both the State delegate, Fran González, and the Zona Franca management team were able to see first-hand the daily work of the Warehouse. It should be remembered that DALSE has approximately 12,000 m2 warehouse in the Port of Algeciras - of which 8,700 m2 are covered-, 10 loading docks, 3 docks for refrigerated merchandise, bi-temperature chambers and machinery for sealing bottles.
