The free zones of Cádiz and Seville can and should be complementary. With this premise, the State delegate in the Cádiz Consortium, Victoria Rodríguez Machuca, and the delegate of the Seville Free Trade Zone, Alfredo Sánchez Monteseirín, met yesterday morning in Cádiz, a meeting that was the first institutional contact after their respective appointments this summer.
Rodríguez Machuca and Sánchez Monteseirín wanted to settle any debate on competition between both free zones and focused the meeting on exchanging experiences, laying the foundations for understanding and analyzing possible channels of cooperation between the two Andalusian free zones, from the different realities of each one: That of Cádiz, a reference with decades of experience, at full capacity, a larger size, strategic location and high number of installed companies; and Seville, recently created but with the capacity for development and growth and an important business area.
In this sense, both delegates agreed on the convenience of, based on the experience of the Cádiz Free Trade Zone, looking for possible channels of collaboration that can optimize the advantages that each site offers to the business fabric of its area of influence, given that the different characteristics of each one could provide added value and favor the consolidation of a large Algeciras-Cádiz-Jerez-Seville logistics zone.
We must highlight the strategic location and the logistical potential of the province of Cádiz with the ports of the Bays of Algeciras and Cádiz, the Jerez airport and the industrial areas associated with these infrastructures, including the new Las Aletas project.
Finally, the top officials of the two Andalusian free zones – of the seven free zones that exist in Spain – also analyzed the participation in the Coordination Group of the special delegates of the State in the Free Zones, established last year to be a permanent mechanism that facilitates coordination between these entities and dialogue with the Ministry of Finance.
