The State delegate in the Free Trade Zone of Cádiz, Jorge Ramos, participated today in the signing of the collaboration protocol for the commemoration of the tercentenary of the transfer of the Casa de Contratación de Indias to the city of Cádiz and in which 15 other entities collaborate, including city councils and various organizations from across the province.

In addition to the head of the Free Trade Zone, the president of the Provincial Council, Irene García, was at the event and signed the agreement; the Government delegate in Andalusia, Antonio Sanz; the vice president of the Junta de Andalucía, Manuel Jiménez Barrios; the mayors of Cádiz, José María González; Puerto Real, Antonio Romero; Chiclana, José María Román; San Fernando, Patricia Cavada; El Puerto de Santa María, David de la Encina; Sanlúcar, Victor Mora; and Rota, José Javier Ruiz Arana; the rector of the University of Cádiz, Eduardo González Mazo; the deputy defense delegate in Cádiz, Joaquín Tomás González; the president of the Port Authority of the Bay of Cádiz, José Luis Blanco; the president of the Cádiz Chamber of Commerce, Angel Juan Pascual; and the president of the Confederation of Businessmen of Cádiz, Javier Sánchez Rojas.

The document expresses the need to establish a single and coordinated agenda of activities, with which one of the most fruitful historical stages for the Bay of Cádiz can be exposed: the 18th century, a period of splendor in commercial relations with overseas territories, of social cosmopolitanism and cultural flourishing.

At this event, the logo with the corporate image of this anniversary was also presented and was chosen unanimously by the members of the jury in which different institutional representatives participated.

It should be remembered that Jorge Ramos and the provincial deputy in charge of the efforts to organize the tercentenary of the transfer to Cádiz of the Casa de Contratación, Fran González, met at the end of April at the Headquarters of the Free Trade Zone to analyze the lines of collaboration in this celebration, which will take place in 2017.

The delegate of the Free Zone, an Institution that will carry out events that link its activity with the anniversary, conveyed to the provincial deputy his complete willingness for the Consortium to actively participate in the celebration and even agreed to appoint a representative of the Free Zone to be part of the technical commission that will define the central axes of the tricentennial and its actions.

Although it first began to operate in Seville, by Royal Order of May 12, 1717 and due to the importance that Cádiz was acquiring, which was the head of the Indies fleet, Felipe V decided to transfer the Casa de Contratación to the port of Cadiz, despite the reluctance and claims of the Sevillian authorities.
