The Forum was organized by Cadena Ser to delve into the issues that concern port activity and the industry of Campo de Gibraltar and was held in the Logistics Area of El Fresno, in Los Barrios.

The State delegate in the Cádiz Free Trade Zone, Jorge Ramos, highlighted once again the importance of institutional collaboration and pointed out the El Fresno Tax Precinct as “the best example of how the future of our land should be considered through cooperation between institutions”, during his speech at the I Campo de Gibraltar Maritime Port Logistics Forum that was held this Thursday in the El Fresno Logistics Area, in Los Barrios, organized by the Ser Chain.

During his presentation, titled “The role of the Free Zone in the logistics-port development of Campo de Gibraltar”, Jorge Ramos highlighted the importance of the expansion of the Free Zone to different municipalities in the province, going from 330,000 m2 to 1,300,000 m2, particularly highlighting the case of Los Barrios as a privileged enclave and where the project is very advanced with six companies about to set up shop.

The Free Trade Zone delegate pointed out that El Fresno and the entire Campo de Gibraltar should not only be a logistical reference but should also be a productive space of great importance given its strategic location and detailed the municipalities in which the Fiscal Precinct will expand: Los Barrios, Algeciras, La Línea and to which San Roque could soon be added.

Ramos added that the project to expand and expand the Free Trade Zone throughout the province will generate a significant supply of attractive land and available spaces for the establishment of companies, which will increase their competitiveness by being able to take advantage of the customs and tax advantages inherent to a tax precinct and will, therefore, save production costs. “The extension and expansion project will position the Cádiz Free Trade Zone as the first industrial and economic center of the province in the next 2-4 years, with the consequent revitalization of economic activity throughout its area of influence and a business volume in these areas exceeding 1,500 million euros,” he explained.

Jorge Ramos also made reference to the Seville Free Zone, which he has always described as complementary to Cádiz, and pointed out that "we must bet on the conjunction of the Andalusian free zones because the key to logistics and economic activity is in the hinterland from the Campo de Gibraltar through the Guadalquivir to Seville."

Furthermore, the head of the Consortium pointed out the intense work carried out by Zona Franca creating business infrastructure throughout the province and said that "after four years of hard work, the Consortium has been present throughout the province with actions that exceed 180 million euros in investments, all to put ourselves at the service of the businessman, who is the one that really creates jobs."

For his part, the managing director of the Ports Agency of Andalusia, Alfonso Rodriguez Gómez de Celis, was the first speaker of the day and spoke on “The network of logistics areas of Andalusia and commercial ports”, which was followed by the president of the Bahía de Algeciras Port Authority, Manuel Morón, with the presentation “The port of Algeciras and the railway”.

Both speakers highlighted the magnificent collaboration maintained by their respective entities with the Free Trade Zone, which they gave as an example of how institutional collaboration generates important projects to benefit economic activity and, consequently, job creation.
