The Special Delegate of the State in the Cádiz Free Zone Consortium, Jorge Ramos, spoke this morning at the Business Breakfast of the Jerez Chamber of Commerce, where he presented to a business group from the city the project to expand and expand the Free Zone to different municipalities in the province, placing special emphasis on the presence of the Free Zone in the city, through different projects. Ramos stressed at various points in his speech the importance of collaboration between the Institution and businessmen to be able to carry out initiatives that generate wealth and employment for the Jerez-Campiña region.
The delegate, who was presented by the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Jerez and also president of the Confederation of Entrepreneurs of Cádiz, Javier Sánchez Rojas, thanked the businessmen for their interest in knowing the work of the Free Trade Zone in the province, constant work to ensure that the Consortium takes “a qualitative leap and goes from the current 330,000 m2 to 1,300,000 m2, which will be in the next 3-5 years the first economic pole of the province, which will allow the direct and induced economic activity produced by this large hub to exceed 1,500,000 euros, taking into account that in the fiscal area of Cádiz, in which there are 250 companies currently installed, an economic activity of 300-350 million euros is generated, a figure that would be multiplied by 4 with the new facilities.
During his speech, the State delegate highlighted the importance of the Free Trade Zone in Jerez, where “it was largely unknown and where things had not been done as they should.” Since 2012, in a very short time, the Free Trade Zone has multiplied its presence, with projects underway and imminent execution that will lead to an increase in economic activity and, therefore, employment for the area.
Ramos first highlighted the rehabilitation of the San Agustín Convent as a Business Center, an “emblematic” work that will highlight an architectural heritage at the service of entrepreneurs. In this sense, the delegate announced that a part of the building may be inaugurated in the first quarter of 2015.
Another significant presence in Jerez is the comprehensive remodeling of the El Portal industrial estate, whose tender will take place in the coming days and in which, in collaboration with the Jerez City Council, works will be carried out to revitalize a 40-year-old industrial estate and which, once its infrastructure is improved, will be a center of wealth and job creation for Jerez. The delegate pointed out a planned investment for this project of around 4 million euros.
Finally, Ramos highlighted the importance of the Jerez-Campiña region in the expansion and expansion project of the Free Trade Zone, since Jerez is one of the locations in which a tax and customs facility will be created in order to create a new productive space that energizes the economy, which offers competitive advantages for entrepreneurs who settle there. The delegate explained that the location of these spaces is being finalized, requiring a concentration of land since it has to be a fenced and perimeter-limited area.
Jerez, according to the highest representative of the Free Trade Zone, is expected to be the next milestone in the expansion plan, which has already taken its first steps in the municipality of Los Barrios, in Campo de Gibraltar, with the agreement of a site of between 70,000 and 100,000 m2 in El Fresno; and with the expansion of the Cádiz tax area by about 130,000 m2.
Today's breakfast is part of the cycle of conferences organized by the Jerez Chamber of Commerce with the collaboration of CaixaBank, aimed at addressing different current issues of interest to the regional socioeconomic fabric and which aims to bring together businessmen, entrepreneurs and economic and social agents of this region.
