In its last meeting, the Executive Committee of the Free Zone authorized the signing of the executive agreement between the Cádiz Consortium and the Jerez City Council to carry out the comprehensive improvement of the El Portal de Jerez Industrial Park, a rehabilitation that has a budget close to 4 million euros and that will serve to completely regenerate this industrial zone with the aim of consolidating the existing companies there and attracting new investments.
The Free Zone project, which will put out to tender the works shortly, and the City Council has a budget close to 4 million euros, 75% co-financed by the Free Zone with FEDER Funds and the remaining 25% by the City Council. The objective of the agreement is to put into practice the protocol of intentions signed by the Free Trade Zone delegate, Jorge Ramos, and the mayor of Jerez, María José García Pelayo, last May and which contemplates the comprehensive rehabilitation of El Portal, one of the oldest industrial estates in the city and one of the largest, with 172 hectares and more than 600 companies located therein.
The works will affect three streets of the Polígono, Cantos Ropero, Morocco and South Africa, with works aimed at improving urban infrastructure, paving, potholes, curbs, and services, cleaning green areas, street furniture, signage and service networks.
In addition, the facilities of the Andana Municipal Business Center will be comprehensively improved, a center dedicated to the promotion of business activities that generate employment and that provides entrepreneurs with theoretical and practical knowledge to integrate into the labor market.
The comprehensive rehabilitation project aims to enhance this Industrial Estate, which was very deteriorated, and reinforce its image so that it becomes an attractive place to invest and consolidate existing companies.
The Cádiz Free Trade Zone thus reinforces its presence in Jerez, after its strong commitment to the city after launching the rehabilitation of the San Agustín Convent, whose works began in January.
