The rehabilitation of the convent of San Agustín de Jerez as a Business Center promoted by the Free Trade Zone of Cádiz is closer to being a reality. The Local Government Board of the Jerez City Council, chaired by the mayor, María José García-Pelayo, approved a few days ago the granting of the construction license requested by the Consortium for this action, which, together with the fact that Zona Franca also proceeded on October 30 to open the financial offers, after having previously carried out the technical evaluations, will make it possible for the work to be awarded in the coming days.
It is worth remembering that this action, which went out to tender last August with an amount of 5,784,196.88 euros (VAT not included) and an execution period of 12 months, is part of the agreement signed between the Jerez City Council, the Ministry of Finance and Public Administrations and the Free Trade Zone Consortium, in September 2012. The initiative is financed by European Funds, within the framework of the FEDER Operational Program of Andalusia 2007-2013.
The granting of the construction license culminates the administrative procedure that has been carried out over the last year to launch this important project, and confirms the firm and determined commitment of the City Council and the Free Trade Zone in order to promote an action that is considered key to boosting economic activity and generating employment in Jerez and the province of Cádiz.
The creation of a business center in San Agustín represents a significant public investment aimed at generating wealth, promoting entrepreneurship and supporting SMEs in the city and throughout the province and, due to its strategic location, will contribute to giving life to the commercial center of Jerez.
The project, in figures
The project has a double objective; On the one hand, it will enable the architectural recovery of an old convent that is in a dilapidated state, and, on the other hand, it will allow the creation of modern and functional equipment available to entrepreneurs and small self-employed people, who will have their own space to generate employment and wealth in Jerez.
The new business center will have a total area of approximately 4,500 square meters, distributed over three floors high that will have 49 offices with areas between 15 and 60 square meters. The property will also have multiple-use and shared meeting rooms with spaces intended to support entrepreneurs and companies that set up shop.
The initiative also includes redevelopment and adaptation works on part of Puerto Street, covering an area of 2,278.38 m2.
