The new Carbures headquarters, which will occupy approximately 4,700 m2, includes an investment of 7.9 million euros and will be co-financed by European funds.
This innovative building will be made of 80% composite materials and will be used for the production of composites in the civil engineering sector.
The delegate of the Free Zone, Jorge Ramos, and the president of Carbures, Carlos Guillén, laid the foundations of the project with the signing on September 13 of the agreement for its development. The event was attended by the mayor, Teófila Martínez
The construction of the new Carbures plant in the Fiscal Area of the Free Trade Zone of Cádiz is closer to being a reality. This morning, Monday, September 30, 2013, the Cádiz Institution has proceeded to formally request the corresponding construction license from the City Council for the construction of the Carbures headquarters in Cádiz, thus expediting all the necessary procedures for the new plant to become a reality in the shortest possible time.
In parallel, trials and tests are being finalized on the site where the building will be built. –plot P-6 of about 6,000 square meters, which housed the old Procosur plant - by a specialized engineering company and with this it will be possible, in no more than 15 days, to have the execution project, basic to be able to carry out the bidding for the works.
Currently, Zona Franca is also working on the preparation of the specifications that will include all the necessary aspects for the award of the works, which contemplate an investment of 7.9 million euros for the development of an innovative project, made 80% with composite materials, and which will house the corporation's tenth headquarters in the world and the fifth in Andalusia. The works will be co-financed by European Regional Development Funds (ERDF).
Previously, and in order to reduce the deadlines for the start of the works, the Consortium has already sent to the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) the prior notice of bidding for the works, with which Zona Franca estimates that in the next 45 days it will be in a position to put out to tender the works so that companies can compete for its construction, a procedure that will be reported in a timely manner in the Contractor's Profile on the website. www.zonafrancacadiz.com.
Pioneering project applied to the field of civil construction
It is worth remembering that Carbures and the Cádiz Free Zone Consortium, represented by Carlos Guillén, president of the company and Jorge Ramos Aznar, Special Delegate of the State in the Consortium, signed on September 13 the agreement that includes the project and design of the company's new plant in the Tax Precinct, made 80% with composite materials, and intended for the construction sector.
This unique building, which will occupy approximately 4,700 square meters, will serve to promote and publicize the use of composites in construction, and due to the innovative use of materials, it will lay the foundations for their use in building structures. The contribution of this material to civil works will represent a great technological advance since it is 4.5 times lighter than steel and up to 3 times more resistant and with greater flexibility and resistance.
The plant, whose project will be carried out in the next 24 months, will assume a double functionality: On the one hand it will serve as an innovative example in which the benefits of composites in building will be shown; and, on the other hand, it will be a production plant for composite materials aimed at construction.
The building will be divided into three parts: one oriented to production in long series, another for short series and a last one that will house I D i, the axis that supports Carbures' activity.
Carbures, which designs and manufactures carbon fiber parts and structures for sectors such as aeronautics and automotive, has already introduced this technology in the civil engineering sector in elements such as beams and light bridges. The Tax Precinct plant will become the company's fifth headquarters in Andalusia -Cádiz (4) and Seville (1)-; the sixth in Spain (with that of El Burgo de Osma); and the tenth in the world -Spain (6), USA (3) and China (1)-.
