The State delegate in the Cádiz Free Trade Zone Consortium, Jorge Ramos, and the mayor of Los Barrios, Jorge Romero, signed this morning the agreement that will allow the comprehensive improvement of the Palmones Parque Empresarial Los Barrios. An event that was attended by the first deputy mayor, David Gil, and the majority of the councilors of the PA-PP Government Team.
The event began with a presentation of the special plan for the business park carried out by the architect Luis Modet.
Next, Jorge Ramos highlighted that this Free Trade Zone investment "will reactivate the economy in the business park and highlight the interest in improving its facilities, with the aim of contributing to the socioeconomic development of Los Barrios and Campo de Gibraltar. This type of investment lays the foundations for economic activity to be generated, new companies to be created and these to generate employment, something so necessary in these times," he noted.
The State delegate in the Cádiz Free Trade Zone Consortium recalled that the Free Trade Zone has invested a figure close to 30 million euros in the Barreño business park.
The different actions that are going to be carried out, whose investment amounts to 3.7 million euros, are financed by a subsidy from the FEDER Funds within the Operational Program “Andalusia 2007-2013”.
For his part, the mayor of Los Barrios, Jorge Romero, has thanked Zona Franca for its commitment to the business park with this investment and has highlighted the work with David Gil to make this help a reality. "It is an ambitious project that we have worked on in recent months and that will enhance our commercial and industrial area, the economic engine of the town and the region."
Romero has announced that "the City Council is working on the creation of a unitary entity, such as a conservation entity, to manage the business park, unifying everything into a single management unit, a single brand."
The signed protocol breaks down the 38 proposed actions, which can be classified into three groups: strengthening the urban structure; the improvement of service infrastructures and the enhancement of the global image, actions that will redesign, improve and, in some cases, create new spaces, in order to correct obsolete infrastructure over the years and will modernize and energize some industrial estates that attract population from the entire Campo de Gibraltar region.
It should be noted that the works would also result in a comprehensive improvement of the surroundings of Parque Empresaria, property of a company owned by the Free Trade Zone of Cádiz, a park through which the Consortium has been established in the municipality since 2003 and which sits on an area of 312,000 square meters.
The signing of this agreement is part of a series of actions that Zona Franca is promoting together with the Los Barrios City Council to promote the development of the municipality's economy. Thus, last January the heads of both institutions signed an agreement to promote business projects, focused on creating infrastructure and services that entrepreneurs need to launch their activities.
